लक्ष्मणेन सह भ्रात्रा वसतश्च वने तव॥ २॥
रक्षसापहृता भार्या मैथिली जनकात्मजा।
त्वया वियुक्ता रुदती लक्ष्मणेन च धीमता॥ ३॥
अन्तरं प्रेप्सुना तेन हत्वा गृध्रं जटायुषम्।
भार्यावियोगजं दु:खं प्रापितस्तेन रक्षसा॥ ४॥ |

| अनुवाद |
| जब आप अपने भाई लक्ष्मण के साथ वन में रह रहे थे, तब राक्षस रावण ने आपकी पत्नी, मिथिला की कन्या जनकनंदिनी सीता का हरण कर लिया था। उस समय आप उनसे दूर थे और बुद्धिमान लक्ष्मण भी उन्हें अकेला छोड़कर चले गए थे। राक्षस इसी अवसर की प्रतीक्षा में था। उसने गिद्ध जटायु को मारकर रोती हुई सीता का हरण कर लिया। इस प्रकार राक्षस ने आपको अपनी पत्नी के वियोग में कष्ट पहुँचाया है॥ 2-4॥ |

| ‘When you were living in the forest with your brother Lakshmana, the demon Ravana abducted your wife, Mithila's daughter Janakanandini Sita.
