क्रुद्धं नि:श्वसमानं तं प्रदीप्तमिव तेजसा।
भ्रातुर्व्यसनसंतप्तं दृष्ट्वा दशरथात्मजम्॥ २॥
उत्पपात हरिश्रेष्ठो हित्वा सौवर्णमासनम्।
महान् महेन्द्रस्य यथा स्वलंकृत इव ध्वज:॥ ३॥ |

| दशरथपुत्र लक्ष्मण क्रोध से भारी साँसें ले रहे थे और तेज से प्रज्वलित हो रहे थे। वे अपने भाई के दुःख से अत्यन्त व्यथित थे। उन्हें अपनी ओर आते देख, वानरश्रेष्ठ सुग्रीव अपना स्वर्णमय सिंहासन छोड़कर ऐसे उछल पड़े मानो देवराज इन्द्र की सुशोभित ध्वजा आकाश से पृथ्वी पर उतर आई हो।॥ 2-3॥ |
