'मेरा हृदय दुःख से भर गया, मेरा मन अत्यन्त दुःखी हो गया। मैं सरयू के तट पर उस स्थान पर गया और देखा कि एक तपस्वी बाण से घायल होकर पड़ा है। उसकी जटाएँ बिखरी हुई थीं, घड़े का जल गिर चुका था और उसका सारा शरीर धूल और रक्त से लथपथ था। वह बाणों से बिंधकर पड़ा था। उसकी यह दशा देखकर मैं भयभीत हो गया, मेरे मन को शांति नहीं मिली। उसने मुझे दोनों नेत्रों से देखा, मानो अपने तेज से मुझे जलाकर भस्म कर देना चाहता हो। वह कठोर वचनों में इस प्रकार बोला -॥35-37 1/2॥
'My heart was filled with misery, my mind became very sad. I went to that place on the bank of Saryu and saw that an ascetic was lying wounded by an arrow. His matted locks were scattered, the water of the pitcher had spilled and his entire body was covered with dust and blood. He was lying pierced by arrows. I was scared to see his condition, my mind was not at peace. He looked at me with both his eyes as if he wanted to burn me to ashes with his brilliance. He spoke in harsh words like this -॥ 35-37 1/2॥
