एवमुक्तो धिगित्येव राजा दशरथोऽब्रवीत्।
व्रीडितश्च जन: सर्व: सा च तन्नावबुध्यत॥ १७॥
अनुवाद
जब उसने ऐसा कहा तो राजा दशरथ बोले, "तुम्हें शर्म आनी चाहिए।" वहाँ उपस्थित सभी लोग लज्जा से भर गए; किन्तु कैकेयी न तो अपने कथन की अनुचितता समझ सकी और न ही राजा द्वारा दी गई फटकार का औचित्य।
When she said this, King Dasharath said, "Shame on you." All the people present there were filled with shame; but Kaikeyi could not understand the inappropriateness of her statement or the justification of the rebuke given by the King.
