महागजो ध्वान्तमभिप्रविष्ट:।

| जैसे विशाल हाथी जब अन्धकारमय कुएँ में गिर जाता है और लोग उसे जलती हुई लकड़ियाँ मारकर पीड़ा देने लगते हैं, उस अवस्था में वह क्रोध से जल उठता है; उसी प्रकार अपनी माता का बार-बार करुण क्रन्दन सुनकर श्री राम भी (स्वधर्मपालन में बाधा जानकर) कुपित हो उठे (उन्होंने वन जाने का दृढ़ निश्चय किया)॥54॥ |

| Just as when a huge elephant falls into a dark well and people start tormenting it by hitting it with burning sticks, in that condition he burns with anger; similarly, on hearing the repeated sad cries of his mother, Shri Ram too became furious (considering it an obstacle in the observance of his own religion).
