उस समय अयोध्या ऐसी प्रतीत हो रही थी मानो किसी महायुद्ध में संकटग्रस्त सेना हो, जिसके कवच कटे हुए हों, हाथी, घोड़े, रथ और ध्वजाएँ टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो गई हों तथा मुख्य योद्धा मारे गए हों।
At that time Ayodhya appeared like an army in distress in a great war, with its armour cut off, elephants, horses, chariots and flags torn to pieces and the main warriors killed.
