यथा तु रोपितो वृक्ष: पुरुषेण विवर्धित:।
ह्रस्वकेन दुरारोहो रूढस्कन्धो महाद्रुम:॥ ८॥
स यदा पुष्पितो भूत्वा फलानि न विदर्शयेत्।
स तां नानुभवेत् प्रीतिं यस्य हेतो: प्ररोपित:॥ ९॥
एषोपमा महाबाहो तदर्थं वेत्तुमर्हसि।
यत्र त्वमस्मान् वृषभो भर्ता भृत्यान् न शाधि हि॥ १०॥
अनुवाद
‘जैसे फल की इच्छा रखने वाले मनुष्य ने एक वृक्ष लगाया, उसका पालन-पोषण किया और उसे बड़ा किया; फिर उसका तना मोटा हो गया और वह इतना विशाल वृक्ष हो गया कि नाटे मनुष्य के लिए उस पर चढ़ना बड़ा कठिन हो गया। वृक्ष में फूल आने पर भी यदि फल न लगें, तो जिस उद्देश्य से वह वृक्ष लगाया गया था, वह पूरा नहीं हो सकता। ऐसी स्थिति में, जिसने उसे लगाया था, उसे फल मिलने पर जो सुख संभव था, वह नहीं मिलता। महाबाहो! यह एक उपमा है, आप स्वयं इसका अर्थ समझें (अर्थात् पिता ने प्रजा की रक्षा के लिए आप जैसे सर्वगुण संपन्न पुत्र को उत्पन्न किया था। यदि आप शासन का भार अपने हाथ में नहीं लेंगे, तो उनका उद्देश्य निष्फल हो जाएगा)। इस शासन के अवसर पर, यदि आप श्रेष्ठ और पालन-पोषण करने में समर्थ होने पर भी हम सेवकों पर शासन नहीं करेंगे, तो उपरोक्त उपमा आप पर लागू होगी।॥8-10॥
‘Just as a person who desired fruits planted a tree, nurtured it and grew it; then its trunk grew thick and it became such a huge tree that it was very difficult for a short person to climb it. Even after the tree blossoms, if it does not bear fruits, then the purpose for which the tree was planted could not be fulfilled. In such a situation, the person who planted it does not experience the happiness that was possible after getting the fruits. Mahabaho! This is a simile, you yourself understand its meaning (that is, father had created a son like you, endowed with all virtues, for the protection of the people. If you do not take the responsibility of the governorship in your hands, then his purpose will be futile). On this occasion of the governorship, if you do not rule over us servants even though you are the best and capable of providing, then the above simile will apply to you.॥ 8-10॥
