| राजा वृद्ध थे और उनकी पत्नी जवान थी, इसलिए वे उसे अपने प्राणों से भी अधिक प्रिय समझते थे। राजा के मन में कोई पाप नहीं था; परन्तु कैकेयी के मन में पाप था। उन्होंने उसे कटी हुई लता के समान पृथ्वी पर पड़ी हुई देखा - मानो कोई दिव्य अप्सरा स्वर्ग से पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ी हो ॥23-24॥ |
