उनकी बातें सुनकर विश्वामित्र का मुख लज्जा से झुक गया। वे अत्यन्त दुःखी हुए और विनीत भाव से बोले, 'हाय! मैंने इतनी घोर तपस्या की है, फिर भी ऋषियों सहित सभी देवता मुझे राजर्षि ही मानते हैं। ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि मेरी यह तपस्या फलीभूत नहीं हुई।'
On hearing his words, Vishwamitra's face bowed down in shame. He was very sad and humbly said to himself, 'Oh! Even though I have done such a great penance, all the gods including the sages consider me a royal sage. It seems that this penance has not borne any fruit.'
