वहाँ से गंगा पुनः भगीरथ के रथ के पीछे-पीछे चलीं। उस समय नदियों में श्रेष्ठ जाह्नवी, राजा भगीरथ के पूर्वजों के उद्धार का कार्य करने के लिए समुद्र में पहुँचकर पाताल लोक में चली गईं।
