वे विष्णु के अवतार थे और खीर या प्रसाद के आधे भाग से प्रकट हुए थे। कौशल्या के सौभाग्यशाली पुत्र श्री राम ही इक्ष्वाकु वंश के सुखों में वृद्धि करने वाले थे। उनकी आँखों में हल्की लालिमा थी। उनके होंठ लाल थे, उनकी भुजाएँ बड़ी थीं और उनकी आवाज़ ढोल की ध्वनि के समान गम्भीर थी।
