सुवर्णवर्णसंनाहैर्योधै: कनकभूषणै:।

| किरीटधारी अर्जुन के उत्तम बाणों से घायल होकर, सदैव गर्व से भरे हुए, कवचधारी और शुभ आकृति वाले चार सौ कुपित हाथी गिर पड़े। उन हाथियों पर स्वर्ण-कवच और स्वर्ण-आभूषण धारण किए हुए योद्धा बैठे थे और क्रूर स्वभाव वाले महावत उन्हें अपनी एड़ियों और अँगूठों से आगे बढ़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित कर रहे थे। समस्त पशुओं सहित गिरे हुए हाथी विशाल पर्वत की चोटियों के समान सर्वत्र पड़े हुए थे। युद्धभूमि उन हाथियों के शवों से पटी हुई थी, जो अर्जुन के बाणों से विशेष रूप से घायल होकर गिर पड़े थे। |

| Four hundred furious elephants, always brimming with pride, wearing armour and having auspicious features, fell down after being struck by the excellent arrows of crown-wearing Arjuna. Warriors wearing golden armour and gold ornaments were seated on those elephants and the cruel-natured mahouts were encouraging them to move forward with their heels and thumbs. The fallen elephants along with all the animals were lying everywhere like the peaks of a great mountain. The battlefield was covered with the bodies of those elephants who had fallen after being specially wounded by Arjuna's arrows. |
