तत्पश्चात् भयंकर महारथी द्रोणाचार्य ने पाँच दिन तक अभेद्य युद्धभूमि बनाकर शत्रु सेना का संहार, रथियों का नाश तथा युद्धस्थल में जयद्रथ की रक्षा करके रात्रिकालीन संग्राम में यमराज के समान प्रजा को जलाना आरम्भ कर दिया।
