तामापतन्तीं सहसा द्विधा चिच्छेद भारत।
कर्णो वै धन्विनां श्रेष्ठस्तांश्च सर्वानवारयत् ॥
ततस्तान् निशितैर्बाणै: पाण्डवानां महारथान्।
न्यवारयदमेयात्मा शिक्षया च बलेन च॥
अनुवाद
भरत! धनुर्धरों में श्रेष्ठ कर्ण ने अपनी ओर आती हुई सेना को सहसा दो भागों में विभाजित कर दिया और उन समस्त योद्धाओं को आगे बढ़ने से रोक दिया। तब अपार आत्मविश्वास से संपन्न कर्ण ने अपनी विद्या और बल के बल से अपने तीखे बाणों से उन समस्त योद्धाओं-पाण्डवों की गति को अवरुद्ध कर दिया।
Bharata! Karna, the best among archers, suddenly split the force coming towards him into two parts and stopped all those warriors from advancing. Then Karna, endowed with immense self-confidence, with the power of his education and strength, blocked the movement of all those warriors-Pandavas with his sharp arrows.
