क्रोध से भरे अर्जुन ने युद्धभूमि में अपने गांडीव धनुष से छोड़े गए भेड़ के कानों के समान अग्रभाग वाले बाणों से द्रोणपुत्र अश्वत्थामा को घायल कर दिया। घोड़ों की लगाम काटकर उन्हें बुरी तरह घायल कर दिया। इससे अश्वत्थामा युद्धभूमि से बहुत दूर चले गए।
