संजय उवाच
श्रुत्वा तु तं महाशब्दं पाण्डूनां जयगृद्धिनाम्।
चारै: प्रवेदिते तत्र समुत्थाय जयद्रथ:॥ १॥
शोकसम्मूढहृदयो दु:खेनाभिपरिप्लुत:।
मज्जमान इवागाधे विपुले शोकसागरे॥ २॥
जगाम समितिं राज्ञां सैन्धवो विमृशन् बहु।
स तेषां नरदेवानां सकाशे पर्यदेवयत्॥ ३॥ |

| संजय कहते हैं - हे राजन! जब सिन्धुराज जयद्रथ ने विजय की इच्छा रखने वाले पाण्डवों की महान वाणी सुनी और गुप्तचरों ने आकर अर्जुन की प्रतिज्ञा सुनाई, तब वह सहसा उठ खड़ा हुआ। उसका हृदय शोक से भर गया। वह शोक से भरकर मानो शोक के विशाल एवं अथाह सागर में डूब रहा हो, बहुत विचार करने के बाद राजाओं के दरबार में गया और उन महापुरुषों के सामने विलाप और विलाप करने लगा॥1-3॥ |

| Sanjaya says - O King! When Sindhuraj Jayadratha heard the great voice of the Pandavas desirous of victory and when the spies came and told him about Arjuna's vow, he suddenly stood up. His heart was filled with grief.
