‘वृष्णिकुलकलंक सात्वत! मैं अपने दोनों पुत्रों की तथा अपने द्वारा किये गये यज्ञों एवं पुण्यकर्मों की शपथ लेकर कहता हूँ कि यदि इस रात्रि के समाप्त होने से पहले मैं कुन्तीपुत्र अर्जुन से सुरक्षित रहकर अपने को वीर समझने वाले तुम्हारे पुत्रों और भाइयों सहित तुम्हें नहीं मारूँगा, तो मैं घोर नरक में गिरूँगा।
