कथमेनं महात्मानं शक्ष्याम: प्रतिवीक्षितुम्।
लेलिह्यमानं सैन्यं मे हविष्मन्तमिवानलम्॥ ५॥

जैसे अग्निदेव अग्नि से प्रज्वलित होकर अग्नि की हवन सामग्री ग्रहण करते हैं, वैसे ही ये महामनस्वी भीष्म अपनी बाणरूपी जिह्वा से मेरी सेना को चाट रहे हैं। हम लोग उनकी ओर कैसे देख सकेंगे - उनका सामना कैसे कर सकेंगे?॥5॥
‘Just as the fire god Agni, blazing with fire, accepts the offerings of fire, similarly this great-minded Bhishma is licking my army with his arrow-like tongue. How will we be able to look at him – how will we be able to face him?॥ 5॥
