शक्यो जेतुं यम: क्रुद्धो वज्रपाणिश्च देवराट्॥ १६॥
वरुण: पाशभृच्चापि सगदो वा धनेश्वर:।
न तु भीष्म: सुसंक्रुद्ध: शक्यो जेतुं महाहवे॥ १७॥
अनुवाद
‘युद्धभूमि में क्रोधित यमराज, वज्रधारी इन्द्र, पाशधारी वरुण और गदाधारी कुबेर भी पराजित किये जा सकते हैं; किन्तु इस महासमर में क्रोधित भीष्म को परास्त करना असम्भव है ॥16-17॥
‘In the battlefield, even the angry Yamraj, Indra wielding the thunderbolt, Varun wielding the noose or Kubera wielding the mace can be defeated; But it is impossible to defeat the angry Bhishma in this great battle. 16-17॥
