जैसे महाबली तक्षक सर्प अपने भयंकर विष के कारण भयंकर प्रतीत होता है, उसी प्रकार जब क्रोध में भरे हुए महाबली भीष्म हाथ में धनुष लेकर युद्धभूमि में तीखे बाणों की वर्षा करने लगते हैं, तब वे अपने तीखे अस्त्रों के कारण अत्यन्त भयंकर प्रतीत होते हैं।
