संजय! जैसे कोई मनुष्य शीत ऋतु बीत जाने पर ग्रीष्म ऋतु की दोपहर में घास-फूस से भरे हुए घने वन में आग लगा देता है और जब वह अग्नि वायु के कारण सब दिशाओं में फैलकर उसके निकट आ जाती है, तब उसकी ज्वाला से बचने के लिए वह एक-दूसरे की कुशल-मंगल कामना करने लगता है और बार-बार विलाप करता है, वैसे ही राजा धृतराष्ट्र भी सारा धन अपने वश में करके अब अपने उस पुत्र दुर्योधन का पक्ष लेकर (एक दरिद्र की भाँति) विलाप क्यों कर रहे हैं, जो दुष्ट बुद्धि वाला, अभिमानी, दुर्भाग्यशाली, मूर्ख और किसी अच्छे मंत्री की सलाह न मानने वाला है?॥10-11॥
