बंदिन ने कहा - पितृयज्ञ में समिधा देकर अग्नि को प्रज्वलित करने के लिए जिन मन्त्रों का पाठ किया जाता है, उन्हें समिधेनी ऋचा कहते हैं, उनकी संख्या नौ ही कही गई है। जो नाना प्रकार की सृष्टि दिखाई देती है, वह प्रकृति, पुरुष, महत्तत्त्व, अहंकार और पंचतन्मात्रा - इन नौ पदार्थों के संयोग से ही है - ऐसा विद्वान पुरुष कहते हैं। बृहती-छन्द के प्रत्येक श्लोक में नौ अक्षर बताए गए हैं और गणना के लिए सदैव एक से नौ तक की संख्याओं का योग ही प्रयुक्त होता है। 16॥
Bandin said - The mantras which are recited to ignite the fire by giving Samidha in Pitriyagya are called Samidheni Richa, their number is said to be only nine. The various types of creation that are visible are due to the combination of nine substances – Prakriti, Purusha, Mahatattva, Ahamkara and Panchatanamatra – this is what the learned men say. Nine letters have been mentioned in each stanza of Brihati-Chhanda and the sum of numbers one to nine is always used for calculation. 16॥
