वैशम्पायन उवाच
तच्छ्रुत्वा कुरुराजस्य वाक्यानि करुणानि ते।
रुरुदु: सर्वशो राजन् समेता: कुरुजाङ्गला:॥ ६॥
उत्तरीयै: करैश्चापि संच्छाद्य वदनानि ते।
रुरुदु: शोकसंतप्ता मुहूर्तं पितृमातृवत्॥ ७॥ |

| वैशम्पायन कहते हैं, 'हे जनमेजय! कुरुराज के इन करुण वचनों को सुनकर वहाँ एकत्रित हुए कुरुवन प्रदेश के सभी लोग अपने-अपने मुखों को दुपट्टों और हाथों से ढँककर रोने लगे। जैसे पिता और माता अपने बच्चों को विदा करते समय शोक से विह्वल हो जाते हैं, वैसे ही वे दो मिनट तक शोक में डूबकर रोते रहे।' |

| Vaishampayana says, 'O Janamejaya! On hearing these pathetic words of the Kuru King, all the people of the Kuru forest region gathered there started crying, covering their faces with their dupattas and hands. Like a father and mother who are overcome with grief while bidding farewell to their children, they kept crying in grief for two minutes. 6-7. |
