तस्योपायं प्रवक्ष्यामि पुरस्तात् तं निबोधत।
फलमूलानिलभुजां मुनीनां वसतां वने॥ ४२॥
वानप्रस्थं द्विजातीनां त्रयाणामुपदिश्यते।
सर्वेषामेव वर्णानां गार्हस्थ्यं तद् विधीयते॥ ४३॥ |

| अतः मैं सर्वप्रथम तुम्हें आत्मज्ञान प्राप्ति का मार्ग बता रहा हूँ। तुम सब कृपया सुनो। वानप्रस्थ आश्रम तीन वर्णों - ब्राह्मण, क्षत्रिय और वैश्य - के लिए विहित है। वानप्रस्थ धर्म का पालन वन में रहकर, संन्यासी जीवन व्यतीत करके तथा फल, मूल और वायु पर निर्वाह करके किया जाता है। गृहस्थ आश्रम सभी वर्णों के लिए विहित है। ॥42-43॥ |

| Therefore, I am first telling you the way to attain self-knowledge. All of you please listen. The Vanaprastha Ashram is prescribed for the three castes - Brahmin, Kshatriya and Vaishya. The Vanaprastha Dharma is followed by living in the forest, living the life of a monk and surviving on fruits, roots and air. The Grihastha Ashram is prescribed for all castes. ॥ 42-43॥ |
