यथाग्नौ शान्ते घृतमाजुहोति
तन्नैव देवान् न पितॄनुपैति।
तथा दत्तं नर्तने गायने च
यां चानृते दक्षिणामावृणोति॥ ४७॥
उभौ हिनस्ति न भुनक्ति चैषा
या चानृते दक्षिणा दीयते वै।
आघातिनी गर्हितैषा पतन्ती
तेषां प्रेतान् पातयेद् देवयानात्॥ ४८॥
अनुवाद
जिस प्रकार अग्नि के बुझ जाने पर आहुति के रूप में दिया गया घी न तो देवताओं को प्राप्त होता है और न ही पितरों को; उसी प्रकार नर्तकों, गायकों तथा झूठ बोलने वाले अयोग्य ब्राह्मणों को दिया गया दान निष्फल होता है। अयोग्य व्यक्ति को दी गई दक्षिणा न तो दाता को संतुष्ट करती है और न ही ग्रहणकर्ता को, बल्कि दोनों का नाश करती है। इतना ही नहीं, वह विनाशकारी निन्दित दक्षिणा दाता के पितरों को देवयान के मार्ग से पतित कर देती है। 47-48।
Just as the ghee offered as oblations after the fire has been extinguished is neither received by the gods nor by the ancestors; similarly the donations given to dancers, singers and unworthy Brahmins who lie are fruitless. The dakshina given to an unworthy person neither satisfies the donor nor the recipient; rather it destroys both. Not only this, that destructive condemned dakshina makes the ancestors of the donor fall down from the path of Devayana. 47-48.
