भीष्म उवाच
समृद्धौ वासमृद्धौ वा शुभे वा यदि वाशुभे।
संसारेऽस्मिन् समायाता: प्राणिन: पृथिवीपते॥ ४॥
निरता येन भावेन तत्र मे शृणु कारणम्।
सम्यक् चायमनुप्रश्नस्त्वयोक्तस्तु युधिष्ठिर॥ ५॥ |

| भीष्मजी बोले- हे पृथ्वीपति! इस संसार में आए हुए प्राणी उन्नति या अवनति तथा अच्छी या बुरी अवस्था में सुख पाते हैं। वे मरना नहीं चाहते। इसका क्या कारण है, वह मैं तुमसे कहता हूँ, सुनो। युधिष्ठिर! तुमने बहुत अच्छा प्रश्न किया है।॥4-5॥ |
