कश्यप जी ने अपनी उर्वशी से इस पृथ्वी को धारण किया था, इसलिए यह उर्वी नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुई। उस समय पृथ्वी देवी ने कश्यप जी को प्रसन्न करके अपनी रक्षा के लिए यह वर माँगा कि मुझे भूपाल प्रदान करो।
