यदि राजा दण्ड देनेवाले को दण्ड न दे, तो उसे एक रात्रि उपवास करके शुद्धि करनी चाहिए। यदि पुरोहित ऐसे अवसर पर राजा को उसके कर्तव्य का उपदेश न दे, तो उसे तीन रात्रि उपवास करना चाहिए।॥17॥
‘If the king does not punish the person to be punished, he should fast for one night to purify himself. If the priest does not preach the king about his duty on such an occasion, he should fast for three nights.॥ 17॥
