हे श्रेष्ठ! अब तुम पंचभूतों के परम विनाश की कथा सुनो। प्राचीन काल में जब यह पृथ्वी एकार्णव नामक जल में विलीन हो गई। जल तेज में, तेज वायु में, वायु आकाश में, आकाश मन में, मन व्यक्त (महत्त्व) में, पुरुष अव्यक्त प्रकृति में, अव्यक्त पुरुष अर्थात् माया-विशेष ईश्वर में और पुरुष सर्वव्यापी ईश्वर में विलीन हो गया, उस समय सर्वत्र अंधकार ही अंधकार था। उसके अतिरिक्त और कुछ भी दिखाई नहीं देता था। 13-16॥
