दमात् सिद्धिं परीप्सन्तो मां जना: कामयन्ति ह।
दिवं चोर्वीं च मध्यं च तस्माद् दामोदरो ह्यहम्॥ ४४॥ |

| मनुष्य दम (इन्द्रियों के संयम) द्वारा सिद्धि की इच्छा रखते हैं और मुझे प्राप्त करना चाहते हैं तथा दम के द्वारा ही वे पृथ्वी, स्वर्ग और मध्यलोकों में उच्च पद प्राप्त करने की इच्छा रखते हैं, इसलिए मुझे 'दामोदर' कहते हैं ('दम एव दमः तेन उदिर्यति-उन्नतिं प्राप्नोति यस्मात् स दामोदर:' - इसी से दामोदर शब्द की व्युत्पत्ति हुई है)। 44॥ |

| Human beings desire to achieve success through Dam (control of senses) and want to attain Me and through Dam only they aspire to attain high position in the earth, heaven and intermediate worlds, hence I am called 'Damodar' ('Dam eva damah ten udiryati-unnatin prapnoti yasmat sa damodar:' - this is the derivation of the word Damodar). 44॥ |
