शौनक उवाच
कथं स भगवान् देवो यज्ञेष्वग्रहर: प्रभु:।
यज्ञधारी च सततं वेदवेदाङ्गवित् तथा॥ १॥ |

| शौनकजी बोले - सूतनंदन! वे प्रभावशाली वेदवेद्य भगवान नारायणदेव ही यज्ञों में प्रथम भाग लेने वाले माने गए हैं और वे ही वेद-वेदांगों के ज्ञाता तथा निरन्तर यज्ञधारी भी कहे गए हैं। एक ही ईश्वर में यज्ञ के कर्ता और भोक्ता दोनों कैसे सम्भव हैं?॥1॥ |
