अस्मिन्नर्थे पुरा गीतं शृणुष्वैकमना नृप।
यथा दैत्येन वृत्रेण भ्रष्टैश्वर्येण चेष्टितम्॥ १३॥
निर्जितेनासहायेन हृतराज्येन भारत।
अशोचता शत्रुमध्ये बुद्धिमास्थाय केवलाम्॥ १४॥ |

| हे मनुष्यों के स्वामी! इस विषय में एक प्राचीन कथा कही जाती है। उसे एकाग्रचित्त होकर सुनो। भरतनंदन! पूर्वकाल में वृत्रासुर पराजित होकर अपना धन खो बैठा था। उसका कोई सहायक नहीं रह गया था। देवताओं ने उसका राज्य छीन लिया था। उस स्थिति में उस दैत्य ने जो किया, उसका वर्णन इस कथा में है। शत्रुओं के बीच रहते हुए भी उसने आसक्तिरहित मन का आश्रय लेकर शोक नहीं किया।॥13-14॥ |

| O lord of men! An ancient story is told on this subject. Listen to it with full concentration. Bharatanandan! In the past, Vritrasura was defeated and lost his wealth. He had no helper left. The gods had snatched his kingdom. The way that demon did in that condition is described in this story. Even while living in the midst of enemies, he did not grieve, taking shelter of a mind free from attachment.॥ 13-14॥ |
