अर्था: खलु समृद्धा हि बाढं दु:खं विजानताम्।
असमृद्धास्त्वपि सदा मोहयन्त्यविचक्षणान्॥ ५॥
यच्च कामसुखं लोके यच्च दिव्यं महत्सुखम्।
तृष्णाक्षयसुखस्यैते नार्हत: षोडशीं कलाम्॥ ६॥ |

| जो लोग विवेकशील हैं, उन्हें तो अत्यंत सुखदायी पदार्थ भी दुःखमय प्रतीत होते हैं। किन्तु अज्ञानी को तो तुच्छ पदार्थ भी सदैव मोहित करते हैं। इस लोक में काम का सुख और स्वर्ग का दिव्य एवं महान सुख, दोनों ही कामना के अंत से प्राप्त सुख के सोलहवें भाग के बराबर भी नहीं हैं। ॥5-6॥ |

| To those who are prudent, even the most prosperous objects seem to be full of sorrow. But to the ignorant even trivial objects always entice them. The pleasure of lust in this world and the divine and great pleasure of heaven, both are not even worth one-sixteenth of the pleasure that comes from the end of desire. ॥5-6॥ |
