व्यासजी कहते हैं - "बेटा! गृहस्थ को चाहिए कि वह जीवन के अन्तिम काल तक गृहस्थ धर्म का पालन करते हुए घर में ही रहे। धर्मानुसार स्त्री से विवाह करके उसके साथ अग्नि स्थापित करके प्रतिदिन अग्निहोत्र करे और उत्तम व्रतों का पालन करता रहे॥1॥
Vyasa says, "Son! A householder should live at home till the latter part of his life, following the household duties. After marrying a woman according to the Dharma and setting up the fire with her, he should perform Agnihotra (fire sacrifice) every day and keep observing the best fasts.॥ 1॥
