जैसे अग्नि से प्रज्वलित दीपक अपने को तथा समीपवर्ती अन्य वस्तुओं को प्रकाशित करता है, वैसे ही इस शरीररूपी वृक्ष में स्थित पाँचों इन्द्रियाँ चेतनारूपी ज्ञानप्रकाश से प्रकाशित होकर वस्तुओं को प्रकाशित करती हैं (चूँकि उनका प्रकाश चेतनारूपी प्रकाश पर आश्रित है, अतः वे पराधीन हैं; वे स्वयं को प्रकाशित करने में समर्थ नहीं हैं)।॥9॥
Just as a lamp lit by fire illuminates itself as well as other nearby objects, similarly the five senses situated in this tree of the body, illuminated by the light of knowledge in the form of consciousness, illuminate the objects (since their light is dependent on the light of consciousness, they are dependent; they are not capable of illuminating themselves).॥ 9॥
