जैसे लोहा आदि पदार्थ निकट में जलती हुई अग्नि की गर्मी से लाल हो जाता है और उसमें ज्वलनशील होने का थोड़ा-सा गुण आ जाता है; परन्तु वह अपना वास्तविक आन्तरिक रूप और गुण प्राप्त नहीं कर पाता, वैसे ही इन्द्रिय आदि शरीरों में आत्मा केवल चेतनरूप से दीखता है, परन्तु इनसे बना हुआ शरीर वास्तव में चेतन नहीं है। और अग्नि भी निकट की वस्तु के समान ही रूप वाली प्रतीत होती है॥17॥
Just as an iron or other material turns red due to the heat of a fire burning nearby and acquires a small amount of the quality of being a combustible being; but it does not acquire its real internal form and quality, similarly the soul is seen as a mere consciousness in the body of the senses etc., but the body made up of these is not actually conscious. And the fire also appears to have the same form as the object nearby.॥17॥
