पूर्वमेव भगवता ब्रह्मणा लोकहितमनुतिष्ठता धर्मसंरक्षणार्थमाश्रमाश्चत्वारोऽभिनिर्दिष्टा:। तत्र गुरुकुलवासमेव प्रथममाश्रममुदाहरन्ति। सम्यग् यत्र शौचसंस्कारनियमव्रतविनियतात्मा उभे संध्ये भास्कराग्निदैवतान्युपस्थाय विहाय तन्द्रॺालस्ये गुरोरभिवादनवेदाभ्यासश्रवणपवित्रीकृतान्तरात्मा त्रिषवणमुपस्पृश्य ब्रह्मचर्याग्निपरिचरणगुरुशुश्रूषानित्यभिक्षाभैक्ष्यादि सर्वनिवेदितान्तरात्मा गुरुवचननिर्देशानुष्ठानाप्रतिकूलो गुरुप्रसादलब्धस्वाध्यायतत्पर: स्यात् ॥ ८॥ | | | | | | अनुवाद | | भृगुजी बोले - मुने! जगत के कल्याणकर्ता भगवान ब्रह्मा ने प्राचीन काल में धर्म की रक्षा के लिए चार आश्रमों का निर्देश किया था। उनमें ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करते हुए गुरुकुलवास को प्रथम आश्रम कहा गया है। वहाँ रहने वाले ब्रह्मचारी को आंतरिक और बाह्य पवित्रता बनाए रखते हुए, वैदिक अनुष्ठानों और व्रत-नियमों का पालन करते हुए अपने मन को वश में रखना चाहिए। प्रातः और सायं दोनों समय संध्योपासना, सूर्योपस्थान और अग्निहोत्र के द्वारा अग्निदेव की पूजा करनी चाहिए। निद्रा और आलस्य का त्याग करके प्रतिदिन गुरु को प्रणाम करना चाहिए और वेदों का अभ्यास और श्रवण करके अपनी आत्मा को शुद्ध करना चाहिए। प्रातः, सायं और मध्याह्न तीनों समय स्नान करना चाहिए। ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करना चाहिए, अग्नि की पूजा करनी चाहिए और गुरु की सेवा करनी चाहिए। प्रतिदिन भिक्षा मांगनी चाहिए। भिक्षा में जो कुछ मिले, वह सब गुरु को अर्पित कर देना चाहिए। अपनी अंतरात्मा को भी गुरु के चरणों में लीन कर देना चाहिए। गुरुजी जो कुछ कहें, जो कुछ इंगित करें और जो कुछ स्पष्ट आदेश दें, उसके विपरीत आचरण नहीं करना चाहिए। गुरु का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करके स्वाध्याय के लिए तत्पर रहना चाहिए ॥8॥ | | | | Bhriguji said – Mune! Lord Brahma, the benefactor of the world, had in ancient times instructed four ashrams for the protection of religion. Among them, Gurukulvas is called the first ashram by following celibacy. The celibate living there should keep his mind under control by maintaining inner and outer purity, following Vedic rituals and fasting rules. Agnidev should be worshiped through Sandhyopasana, Suryopasthan and Agnihotra both in the morning and evening. Give up sleep and laziness and pay obeisance to the Guru every day and purify your soul by practicing and listening to the Vedas. Take bath all three times in the morning, evening and afternoon. Follow celibacy, worship fire and serve Guru. Beg for alms every day. Whatever you get in alms, offer it all to the Guru. Immerse your inner soul also at the feet of the Guru. Whatever the Guruji says, whatever he indicates and whatever he clearly orders, one should not act contrary to that.
