कृच्छ्राल्लब्धमभिप्रेतं यदि कौसल्य नश्यति।
तदा निर्विद्यते सोऽर्थात् परिभग्नक्रमो नर:॥ ४०॥
(अनित्यां तां श्रियं मत्वा श्रियं वा क: परीप्सति।)
अनुवाद
कोसलराज! यदि बड़ी कठिनाई से प्राप्त किया हुआ इच्छित धन नष्ट हो जाए, तो उसके प्रयत्न की श्रृंखला टूट जाती है और वह धन से विरक्त हो जाता है। इस प्रकार धन को अनित्य जानकर भी कौन उसे प्राप्त करने की इच्छा करेगा?॥40॥
King of Kosal! If the desired wealth, which he has acquired with great difficulty, is destroyed, then the chain of his efforts is broken and he becomes disinterested in wealth. In this way, even after knowing that the wealth is temporary, who will wish to acquire it?॥ 40॥
