पाण्डवों! तुम महान धनुर्धर, रथियों के नायक और वीर शुभ लक्षणों वाले, युद्ध में अर्जुन से पराजित तथा सारथी और राधा के पुत्र के रूप में जिसे तुम सब जानते हो, जो सेना के मध्य में सूर्यदेव के समान शोभायमान था, जिसने पहले अपने सेवकों सहित तुम सबका सामना किया था, जो दुर्योधन की सम्पूर्ण सेना को अपने पीछे खींचते हुए अत्यंत शोभायमान था, बल और पराक्रम की दृष्टि से इस पृथ्वी पर जिसकी कोई तुलना नहीं है, जिसने प्राणों की बाजी लगाकर भी संसार में सदैव यश कमाया है, जिसने युद्ध में कभी पीठ नहीं दिखाई और जिसने निष्काम भाव से महान् कर्म किए हैं, उस तुम्हारे सच्चे भाई कर्ण को भी तुम जल अर्पित करो। वह तुम्हारा बड़ा भाई था। वह वीर पुरुष मेरे गर्भ से सूर्यदेव के अंश से उत्पन्न हुआ था। उस वीर पुरुष के शरीर में जन्म से ही कवच और कुण्डल सुशोभित थे। वह सूर्यदेव के समान तेजस्वी था।
