शक्तेन बहुभृत्येन विपुले तिष्ठता बले।
उभयत्र समर्थेन श्रुतवाक्येन चैव ह॥ ४०॥
इच्छतोपेक्षितो नाश: कुरूणां मधुसूदन।
यस्मात् त्वया महाबाहो फलं तस्मादवाप्नुहि॥ ४१॥ |

| महाबाहु मधुसूदन! आप पराक्रमी थे। आपके बहुत से सेवक और सैनिक थे। आप अपने महान बल के लिए विख्यात थे। आपमें दोनों पक्षों को अपनी बात पर सहमत कराने की शक्ति थी। आपने वेद-शास्त्रों तथा महात्माओं के वचनों को सुना और समझा था। इतना सब होने पर भी आपने कुरुवंश के नाश की स्वेच्छा से उपेक्षा की - जानते हुए भी इस वंश का नाश होने दिया। यह आपका महान् दोष है, अतः आपको इसका फल अवश्य भोगना होगा॥40-41॥ |

| Mahabahu Madhusudan! You were powerful. You had many servants and soldiers. You were renowned for your great strength. You had the power to make both sides agree to your point. You had heard and understood the Vedas and scriptures and the words of the great souls.
