दिनभर में इंद्रियों या मन द्वारा जो भी पाप किए जाते हैं, अथवा मनुष्य जाने-अनजाने में जो भी पाप करता है, वे सभी महाभारत की कथा सुनते ही नष्ट हो जाते हैं। इसमें भरतवंश की महान जन्मगाथा का वर्णन है, इसलिए इसे महाभारत कहा जाता है।
Whatever sins are committed by the senses or the mind during the day or whatever sins a person commits knowingly or unknowingly, all of them are destroyed as soon as one hears the story of the Mahabharata. It describes the great birth story of the Bharata dynasty, hence it is called the Mahabharata.
