श्री कृष्णद्वैपायन वेदव्यास, जिन्होंने महान पाण्डवों आदि क्षत्रियों का उज्ज्वल यश संसार में फैलाया, जिनके महान् कर्म संसार में सुविख्यात थे, जो समस्त विद्याओं के ज्ञान से प्रकाशित थे और जिनका धन और वैभव महान् था, तथा जो पुण्यकर्मों के इच्छुक थे, उन्होंने इस पुण्यमय महाभारत ग्रन्थ की रचना की है। यह धन, यश, आयु, पुण्य और स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति कराने वाला है। जो मनुष्य इस लोक में कल्याण करने के लिए पवित्र ब्राह्मणों को इस परम पुण्यमय ग्रन्थ का श्रवण कराता है, वह सनातन धर्म को प्राप्त होता है। जो मनुष्य इस प्रसिद्ध कौरव वंश का सदैव स्तुति गान करता है, वह पवित्र हो जाता है।
Shri Krishnadvaipayan Ved Vyas, who spread the bright fame of the great Pandavas and other Kshatriyas in the world, whose great deeds were well known in the world, who were revealed by the knowledge of all the sciences and whose wealth and glory were great, and who was desirous of doing virtuous deeds, has created this virtuous Mahabharata book. It brings wealth, fame, life, virtue and attainment of heaven. The person who makes the holy Brahmins listen to this most virtuous book for the sake of doing good in this world, he attains eternal religion. One who always sings the praises of this famous dynasty of Kauravas becomes pure. 27-30॥
