जनमेजयस्य वो यज्ञे धक्ष्यत्यनिलसारथि:।
तत्र पञ्चत्वमापन्ना: प्रेतलोकं गमिष्यथ॥ ७॥ | | | | | | अनुवाद | | (कद्रू ने विनता से अश्वराज उच्चैःश्रवा के रंग पर शर्त लगाई थी। शर्त यह थी कि 'जो हारेगा, वह विजेता की दासी बनेगी।' कद्रू ने अपने पुत्रों को बताया था कि उच्चैःश्रवा की पूँछ काली है। अतः उसने अपने पुत्रों से कहा, 'तुम लोग छल से उस अश्व की पूँछ काली कर दो।' सर्प इस बात से सहमत नहीं हुए। तब उसने सर्पों को श्राप देते हुए कहा, 'पुत्रो! तुम लोगों ने मेरे कहे अनुसार अश्वराज उच्चैःश्रवा की पूँछ का रंग नहीं बदला और विनता की मेरी दासी बनने की शर्त को झूठा सिद्ध कर दिया। अतः जनमेजय के यज्ञ की अग्नि तुम सबको जलाकर भस्म कर देगी और तुम सब मरकर प्रेतलोक में जाओगे।' | | | | (Kadru had bet with Vinata on the colour of the king of horses, Uchchaihshrava.
