सिंहौ भूत्वा पुनर्व्याघ्रौ पुनश्चान्तर्हितावुभौ।
तैस्तैरुपायैस्तौ क्रूरावृषीन् दृष्ट्वा निजघ्नतु:॥ २१॥
निवृत्तयज्ञस्वाध्याया प्रणष्टनृपतिद्विजा।
उत्सन्नोत्सवयज्ञा च बभूव वसुधा तदा॥ २२॥ |

| अनुवाद |
| कभी वे सिंह बन जाते, कभी व्याघ्र बन जाते और कभी अदृश्य हो जाते। इस प्रकार वे क्रूर राक्षस नाना प्रकार के उपायों से ऋषियों को खोज-खोजकर मारने लगे। उस समय पृथ्वी पर यज्ञ और स्वाध्याय बंद हो गए। राजर्षियों और ब्राह्मणों का नाश हो गया तथा यात्रा, विवाह आदि उत्सव और यज्ञ पूर्णतः समाप्त हो गए। ॥21-22॥ |

| Sometimes they would turn into lions, sometimes into tigers and sometimes they would become invisible. In this way those cruel demons started killing sages by searching them out through various means. At that time sacrifices and self-study stopped on earth. Rajarshis and Brahmins were destroyed and festivals like travel, marriages etc. and sacrifices came to an end completely. ॥21-22॥ |
