द्रुपद बोले, "जो श्रोत्रिय नहीं है, वह श्रोत्रिय का मित्र होने के योग्य नहीं है; जो सारथी नहीं है, वह वीर सारथी का मित्र होने के योग्य नहीं है; और जो राजा नहीं है, वह किसी राजा का मित्र होने के योग्य नहीं है; फिर तुम पहले वाले की मित्रता क्यों चाहते हो?"
Drupada said, "He who is not a Shrotriya is not fit to be a friend of a Shrotriya; he who is not a charioteer is not fit to be a friend of a brave charioteer; and he who is not a king is not fit to be a friend of any king; then why do you desire the friendship of the former?"
