हे राजा परीक्षित, महाराज भरत की तीन खूबसूरत पत्नियाँ थीं, जो विदर्भ के राजा की बेटियाँ थीं। जब तीनों के बच्चे हुए तो वे राजा के समान नहीं दिखते थे, इसलिए इन पत्नियों ने यह सोचा कि राजा उन्हें विश्वासघाती रानियाँ समझकर त्याग देंगे, तो उन्होंने अपने-अपने पुत्रों को मार डाला।
O King Parīkṣit, Mahārāja Bharata had three beautiful wives, daughters of the King of Vidarbha. When all three gave birth to children, they did not turn out to be like the king, and so these wives, thinking that the king would discard them as ungrateful queens, killed their own sons.
