भगवान ने कहा: हे उद्धव, मेरा आदेश लो और बदरिका नाम के मेरे आश्रम में जाओ। वहाँ के पवित्र जल को, जो मेरे चरणकमलों से निकला है, छूकर और उसमें स्नान करके अपने को शुद्ध करो। पवित्र अलकनंदा नदी के दर्शन से अपने सभी पापों से मुक्त हो जाओ। वृक्षों की छाल पहनो और जंगल में जो कुछ भी मिले उसे खाओ। इस प्रकार तुम संतुष्ट और इच्छाओं से मुक्त, सभी द्वंद्वों के प्रति सहिष्णु, अच्छे स्वभाव के, आत्मसंयमी, शांतिपूर्ण और आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान और अनुभूति से संपन्न हो सकोगे। अपना ध्यान केंद्रित करके मेरे द्वारा दिए गए उपदेशों पर लगातार ध्यान करो और उनके सार को आत्मसात करो। अपने शब्दों और विचारों को मुझ पर स्थिर रखो और मेरे दिव्य गुणों की अनुभूति को अपने में बढ़ाने के लिए हमेशा प्रयास करते रहो। इस तरह तुम प्रकृति के तीनों गुणों के गंतव्यों को पार करके अंत में मेरे पास वापस आ जाओगे।
The Lord said: O Uddhava, take My command and go to My hermitage called Badarika. You are to touch the holy water there which has come from My lotus feet and purify yourself by bathing in it. You are to cleanse yourself from all sins by the sight of the holy river Alaknanda. You are to wear the bark of trees and eat whatever you can find in the forest. In this way you will become content and free from desire, tolerant of all dualities, of good nature, self-controlled, tranquil and endowed with spiritual knowledge and science. Concentrate your attention and constantly meditate on the instructions given by Me and imbibe their essence. Fix your words and thoughts on Me and always strive to increase the realization of My divine qualities in yourself. In this way you will cross the path of the three modes of nature and finally come to Me.
