भगवान ने कहा : अहिंसा, सच्चाई, दूसरों की संपत्ति पर नज़र न रखना या चोरी न करना, वैराग्य, विनम्रता, किसी भी चीज़ में आसक्ति न रखना, धर्म के सिद्धांतों में विश्वास करना, ब्रह्मचर्य, मौन, स्थिरता, क्षमा और निर्भयता - ये बारह मूल अनुशासनात्मक नियम हैं। आंतरिक और बाहरी शुद्धता, भगवान के पवित्र नामों का जाप करना, तपस्या, त्याग, विश्वास, आतिथ्य, मेरी पूजा करना, पवित्र स्थानों की यात्रा करना, केवल सर्वोच्च हित, संतुष्टि और आध्यात्मिक गुरु की सेवा के लिए कार्य करना और इच्छा करना - ये बारह नियमित निर्धारित कर्तव्य हैं। ये चौबीसों कार्य उन व्यक्तियों को सभी इच्छित वर देते हैं जो श्रद्धा भाव से इनका पालन करते हैं।
