Good karma means what is prescribed in the Vedas. To earn good karma, one should perform yajnas as prescribed in Vedic literature to satisfy Lord Vishnu. Just like a citizen follows the laws of the state, similarly, a person should follow the laws of the Vedas to satisfy Vishnu.
Nowadays, people don't accept God and don't know how to satisfy Him because they are busy in material activities, so they perform bad karmas. By good karma, one enjoys material happiness and may get a good birth, a rich family or good features, while bad karma causes suffering.
A person who does not try to understand his relationship with God is like an animal. Innocence is not a very good qualification; one must be intelligent to understand Krsna. It is stated in Bhagavad-gita that transcendental qualities lead towards liberation, while demonic qualities cause more entanglement in the material world.
People don't know what liberation is. The Sanskrit word for liberation is mukti. Liberation means giving up material consciousness and becoming situated in one's original consciousness, which is God consciousness.
Real honesty does not mean doing what we personally think is right. It means following the order of God. For example, a thief may think stealing is right to maintain his family, but real honesty means not encroaching upon another's property. Therefore, without knowing God, one cannot truly understand honesty.
If a person knows that Krsna is the supreme proprietor, everyone's friend and the supreme enjoyer, he is in full knowledge. Krsna is the central figure of the whole cosmic manifestation and maintains everyone, just like the stomach maintains the different parts of the body. If we all understand this knowledge, there would be peace in this world.
If we understand that everything belongs to Krsna, instead of saying “This is mine,” we will say, “Everything is Krsna's. I'll use this in His service.” Taking something without understanding Krsna's ownership is like stealing. A devotee therefore remembers Krsna and takes His permission.
Srila Prabhupada gives the example that people may give money to a sannyasi when asked for temple construction, but may become angry if told directly that Krsna is the real proprietor and their money should be used in His service. But we are not beggars; we are Krsna's servants. A saintly person helps others by giving them a chance to serve Krsna, and their money can be engaged in Krsna's service.
Therefore, a devotee thinks of Krsna in all activities. No one can be truly knowledgeable and honest without knowing Krsna. By sincerely and regularly chanting the holy name, one can know Krsna because Krsna Himself reveals Himself.
Conclusion
Everything belongs to Krsna, so we should use everything in His service. By developing Krsna consciousness through sincere chanting, we can understand Krsna and become free from material entanglement.
